“Coming eleven years after the introduction of Crone Stones, Epona Stones is a wonderful divination tool inscribed with symbols of horse magic and wisdom culled from world mythologies that will appeal to horse lovers as well as those enamored of rune stones.
The boxed set of Epona Stones includes sixteen stones inside a velveteen bag plus a twenty-five page booklet. The large pouch contains plenty of room to slide stones through your fingers. I found I enjoyed moving the stones and listening to the clatter, reminiscent of horse hooves, as I sifted them against one another. The stones are tumbled and polished with round smooth surfaces. Their large size, ranging from one and a half to two inches in length, gives them a satisfying feel of weight and substance. The visual beauty is enhanced with the soft luster of the semi-precious stones used, including rose quartz, tiger eye, aventurine and jasper. Carved and highlighted symbols painted in black or gold contrast with the stone color, making the image clear upon its natural background.
The accompanying easy-to-use booklet opens with a short prehistory of horses and humans followed by a brief introduction to horse mythology. From there Campbell takes you into the Horse Wisdom System she has invented. The symbolism of the stones is divided into Earth, the prosperity of the horse; Water, the dreamscape of the horse; Fire, the spirit of the horse; and Air, the wisdom of the horse. These meanings translate into the traditional elemental references of physical manifestation, emotions, energy and action, and the mind and mental activity. A photograph of each stone, making it easy to locate, is included with its description, mythology and wisdom.
Campbell provides suggestions for single and multiple lay-outs, along with directions for added interpretations. Among the equines portrayed are Donkey, Pegasus, Sea Horse, Unicorn, and Hobbe. Epona, Hecate, Sol, Diana, Finn and Chiron are among the Goddesses and heroes.
I highly recommend this beautiful boxed set as well as the single stones (sold separately). Either would be a wonderful gift for the horse lover in your life.
